Studiedag "Zorg voor later" 03/03/2012

Het Provinciaal Integratiecentrum Limburg en de Limburgse Integratieraad nodigen u uit op hun studie- en denkdag over allochtonen en ouderenzorg.

Ouder worden is soms fijn.  Maar vaak zijn er ook minder leuke kanten.  Je lichaam wil niet altijd meer mee, of je verstand laat je soms in de steek. 

Maar er is heel wat extra hulp mogelijk die ouder worden aangenaam kan maken.

Wat moet die hulp zijn?  Hoe kunnen hulpverleners rekening houden met verschillen?  En waarom zou jij zelf geen professionele hulpverstrekker worden?

We spreken er met elkaar en professionals over, wisselen ideeën uit, en werken aan aanbevelingen voor het beleid.

Deze studiedag wordt georganiseerd, in samenwerking met POM-ERSV en Universiteit Hasselt.

Academy of Management Africa Conference Johannesburg, South Africa January 7-10, 2013

The purpose of this conference is to bring Africa’s unique capabilities and needs to the attention of the world’s organization and management scholars and at the same time, to provide an opportunity for interested colleagues to collaborate and work on the many interesting theoretical and practice problems presented in Africa.

If it can be said that the average conference is all about collaborators sharing the answers to their research questions, this conference is oriented more toward discovering questions worth asking and then building the collaborative relationships to answer them. Much of our time will be spent together exploring and experiencing many of these capabilities and challenges first hand. Each participant will spend one and a half days “in the field” directly experiencing South Africa and the phenomena that interest them. The conference themes will orient that exploration.

 

The Academy of Management Africa Conference will feature academic paper sessions, symposia, and experiential learning journeys centered on the following tracks:

 

■Navigating Institutions: Business, Government, and Civil Society

 

■Emerging Market Firms and MNCs: Characteristics and Global Aspirations

 

■The Base of the Pyramid: Emerging Market Consumers, Workers, and Managers

 

■Cultural Diversity and Transformational Societies

Affirmative action for women in math contests boosts participation without dropping results

Focusing on the competitiveness aspect, a new study indicates that policy-based initiatives can increase women's participation and competitiveness in math and the quality of the resulting work. The particular experiment performed by Loukas Balafoutas and Matthias Sutter, released February 2 by Science, involved three methods that provided an initial advantage to women in a math competition. The authors found that, in each case, women entered the competitions more readily, but the aggregate performance of the participants was unaffected, and sometimes even improved.

 

The three methods they examined were based on initiatives used in European parliaments or public-sector job searches:

1.A quota system was implemented, requiring that a certain proportion of the winners be female;

2.Two related subcases: the highest-performing woman was given preferential treatment in one, while in the other, if a tie occurred in the competition, the woman was always selected;

3.The competition was repeated until a certain fraction of the winners were women.

Note that none of these constitute "reverse discrimination," an accusation affirmative action plans often face. In no case was a top-performing man denied a reward if he outperformed everyone else. The main effect the researchers found was an increase in the number of able women willing to participate.

Jobkanaalprijs voor diversiteit 2012

Op 16 februari 2012 reikt Jobkanaal in de Lamot in Mechelen voor de vijfde maal de Jobkanaalprijs voor diversiteit uit. Net als bij de vorige edities willen de partnerorganisaties UNIZO, Verso, VKW en Voka met deze prijs ondernemingen belonen die op innovatieve wijze werk maken van diversiteit in hun personeelsbeleid en een voorbeeldrol willen spelen naar andere ondernemingen toe. Goed werk verdient immers een prijs, zeker wanneer dit andere ondernemingen ertoe kan aanzetten hetzelfde te doen.
