Date: 10 January 2013.
Contact: Please contact Juan Espinosa C. (jfe3@le.ac.uk) for more information.

The conference is broadly themed around Critical Management, based on the multi-disciplinary 'Leicester Model' that draws from across the social sciences. Unlike mainstream Business Schools, at Leicester we are concerned with challenging the status quo and giving voice to those individuals, groups and societies who are traditionally overlooked in global management.

Costs and Travel Grants
The costs to BSA members is £10, and £25 to non-BSA members. This money goes towards lunch and drinks for all attendees.

Thanks to generous support from the Graduate Dean at the University of Leicester, we can also offer up to ten PhD travel grants of £50 each. To apply for these please include a short grant application statement (50-100 words) stating your travel costs and needs.

Themes:
We welcome contributions around these themes:

1. Equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Building on our global, critical and multi-disciplinary approach we welcome research in the fields of equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Topics might include leadership, diversity, equality, employment law, workplace violence, the career experiences of minorities and the labour process in developing countries. Participants should focus on the values that global management does, or does not, ascribe to difference.

2. Critical finance. Critiques of mainstream macroeconomics, financialisation and modern finance theory are welcome. Suggested topics include global financial reform, post-Bretton Woods institutions, 'risk-free' rates of return, stock-flow modelling and central banking theory. Empirical contributions might study alternative economies, or describe financial crises from the perspective of disadvantaged groups.

3. Social studies of management and organisation. Building on Science and Technology Studies, this stream invites contributions in the use of 'market devices' and 'organising devices'; other actor-network approaches; and anthropological, ethnographic and sociological studies of organisations.

International Seminar "Diversity and Inequality in Contemporary Organizations" 11-12/09/2012

An EqualDiv@Work International Seminar
Diversity and Inequality in Contemporary Organizations

September 11th: Keynote speeches by two international scolars

  • 14:00-15:15 Donald Tomaskovic-Devey (University of Massachusetts, Amherst) "Relational Inequalities"
All inequalities are produced in and through social relations. This talk outlines some key processes that generate inequalities, argues that they operate in concrete social fields, and that we should expect inequalities to be institutionally, interactionally, and historically contingent. These ideas are illustrated with comparisons of gender inequality in the US and Japan in 1980, class inequalities in the US and Australia today, the impact of financial conceptions of the firm on capital-labor inequalities in the US, and long-term institutional changes in gender and racial segregation in the US private sector over the last half century.
  • 15:15-15:45 Coffee Break
  • 15:45- 17:00 Speech by Ahu Tatli (Queen Mary Business School, University of London) "Researching intersectionality: A Bourdieuan emic approach"
There is a dominant tendency of using etic approaches in equality and diversity research. One possible outcome of etic approaches is a pecking order between various categories of difference leading to overtly or covertly universalistic claims, ahistorical and contextual accounts. In this talk, I propose an emic approach in order to unpack the complexity of intersectionality of difference. The suggested approach operationalises Pierre Bourdieu's theory of capitals, which allows researchers to have power relations rather than fixed categories of difference as their starting point.
  • 18:00 Social dinner in Hasselt

September 12th, PHD-seminar

  • 10:00-12:00 PhD seminar: discussion of two papers in progress
  • 12:00-13:00 Lunch
  • 13:00-16:00 PhD seminar: discussion of three papers in progress

Zwangere topmanager is unicum in VS

, is zwanger.

Enkele weken out

Equality Diversity and Inclusion Conference 2012

5th Equality, Diversity and Inclusion International Conference, 2012, Toulouse, France
23-25 July, 2012, Toulouse Business School
Conference theme: country and comparative perspectives on equality, diversity and inclusion
The 5th EDI conference will be held in Toulouse, Southwest France, 23-25 July 2012. It will provide an exciting forum for encounters and publication projects in a stimulating intellectual, cultural and historical environment.
A wide range of streams is being welcome about all types of research questions and strands of diversity. However, regardless the area and research question of the stream, at paper submission stages, authors of empirical papers will be invited to provide a section albeit brief, about the country or countries of data collection. Transnational streams and papers involving multiple countries will be welcome to this conference. However the indications above should not be seen as limitative in terms of stream themes and approaches.
There will be a doctoral workshop under the supervision of Professor Judith Pringle and Annie Cornet.
The 2012 edition also welcomes pre-conference workshops to be held July 23.
Publication partnerships of EDI 2012 Toulouse conference
Associated to this conference are British Journal of Management, Cross-Cultural Management : an International Journal ; Equality, Diversity, Inclusion: an International Journal, European Journal of International Management and the European Journal of Industrial Relations. Pre selected best papers of the conference will be submitted to these journals who will process them according to their usual standards.

Relevant papers will be eligible to be included in the second edition of the International Handbook on Diversity Management at Work (to be published in 2013 with Edward Elgar), under the chief-editorship of Alain Klarsfeld. Stream organizers alongside participants to their stream may also want to write a summary comparative paper which might then qualify for this book project. See call http://www.viadeo.com/fr/event/006gnzvl84zvhv0/diversity-and-equality-international-research-project

Stream organizers are also advised that the book series Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Work (Book series by Emerald) headed by Professor Mustafa Özbilgin is associated to the conference and relevant stream proposals will be eligible for this book series subject to acceptance decision by professor Özbilgin who will attend the conference.
