This autumn you can visit the exhibition Isala & Louise in M, the museum of Leuven. The exhibition examines the position of women in 19th century civil society, centered around two figures: Isala Van Diest (1842–1916) and Louise Heger (1839-1933). Isala was the first female doctor in Belgium, but ‘as a woman’, she faced a long struggle before she was able to obtain her degree and practice her profession. She later became a champion of feminism. Louise Héger, a landscape artist, led a comparable live with regard to fulfilling her professional dreams.
